Rotary out West

Rod alerted members to this great publication.  It is worth having a look at what activities are happening in other Rotary clubs.  He suggested a group of us might like to attend an advertised golf day which may even generate some ideas for our own golf day.

Click here to check the Rotary Out West link that is in every Bulletin.

Joker won by Abby but the Joker is still available

Heads and Tails won by Carole

Coffee and Cakes

A big thank you to Gillian and Patricia for providing delicious tarts and biscuits, which were enjoyed by all.

Guest Speaker Jade Lewis

Jade shared with us a very inspirational and moving story of her life.

She was a gifted athlete competing and winning medals internationally with the WA State Little Athletic Team.

Going to a rave party at 16 changed her destiny.  Jade had the attitude that she was above drug addiction and wanted to experience a rave party.  It was here she succumbed to the lure of drugs, which led to heroin addiction and a volatile relationship.  During this time a destructive lifestyle, negative attitudes and an

extremely low self esteem were formed.  Her life was going no where and FAST.  With the love and support of her family as well as professional counselling programs Jade has turned her life around.

She and her husband have written books and developed programs designed specifically for school students to warn them of the dangers and give them strategies TO JUST SAY NO.

Click here to find out more about: "Jade Lewis and Friends" and her "Yellow Ribbon Project".

Monday, September 14th, 2015

President Carole welcomed our guest speaker Mariann Zeigler and Robin Robinson,

Peter Abetz, Selwyn Castles, Matheas Gebauer and Fred Soale to the meeting.

Club Phone

Colin reported to the meeting that the dedicated club phone (Mob. 0435 305 199) diverts voice calls to the Attendance Officer.  Unfortunately it does not divert text messages so please do not send in your apologies by text message.

Invitation to Partners and Friends

Colin reminded members to invite honorary members, family and friends to the October 12th meeting to hear the guest speaker Andrea Musulin, Executive Officer of Protective Behaviours WA.

New Badge for Carole

Colin presented President Carole with her new badge.  She has taken on the position of President for the third time and is to be congratulated on her commitment to Rotary.

Join us for Dinner

George and Anne have made a booking at Quinlan's Restaurant, 15 Grosvenor St, Beaconsfield, for 6.30pm on Wednesday September 23rd.

There will be three courses and the cost is $25 pp.

If you have not indicated you are coming on the sheet circulated last Monday but would like to join us please phone Anne Lewkowski on 0433 259 777.

Service Above Self

Bruce took the opportunity to tell the visitors about what Rotary does.

He concluded by saying if you want to do something for the community for nothing, join us.

Weekly Winners

Congratulations to Robin Robinson on winning Heads and Tails, Fred the door prize and Bob the raffle.  The joker still remains in the pack.

You are invited :-Visitors and Partners

Carole reminded members that Applecross RC are coming to our meeting next Monday, September 21st.

Honorary members and partners are encouraged to attend and enjoy the fellowship as well as the guest speaker, Jeremy Prince, talking about  'Safe Seafood'.  Please let the attendance officer know if you are coming, preferably by Friday 18th September.

Guest Speaker

Bruce had great pleasure introducing Mariann Zeigler who spoke to the meeting about the refugee problem in Germany.

In the past people had come from Turkey and for a number of reasons haven't integrated.

Now with this latest huge influx of refugees and the diversity of religions, education and the worry that ISIS gunmen may be among them, Germany has had to start closing its borders.

Love in a Shoe Box

Jim asked for all boxes to be returned by Tuesday 15th September so that he could deliver them to Nancy Bray.

Movie Fund Raiser

Please ask family and friends to come and enjoy a great movie and make this event a success.

We have two major fund-raising sausage sizzles at Bunnings on

November 22 and December 12.  With declining numbers we will

need all members to assist on at least one of these dates.  Please

plan ahead and arrange your activities so that you can help.

We will ask for your day and time preferences closer to the dates.

Still the master craftsman

Bicton Primary School needed a triple "mail box" for office use and asked if RCA could help.  Jim Calcei volunteered to do the job and showed that he has lost none of his skills as a cabinetmaker by producing a fine cabinet in short time.  Colin fixed it to the office wall and the school principal, Stephen Doherty, was delighted with it and was most impressed with the quality and finish.

"Please thank Mr Calcei on my behalf and that of the school community," he requested, "and congratulate him on a job well done!"

Colin fixes Jim's masterpiece to the wall

Gail gives it a quick vacuum

Principal Stephen Doherty is delighted
