RICHARD OFFEN – “Heroes, Vagabonds and Rogues”

We are so pleased to have Richard, from the State Heritage Council, back again to speak to us.

He has a wealth of knowledge about our history and heritage and his presentations are always very interesting and entertaining.

Ian has asked him to bring his latest book if he can.  It sounds fascinating and would make a great Christmas present.

He is a much-requested speaker so it would be good if partners and friends came along to make up a good audience[C1] .

ROTARY SPECIAL MONTHS:    NOVEMBER IS ROTARY FOUNDATION

November 7th

What a great meeting!

The Directors reports were very interesting and informative.

The RC of Attadale is certainly active locally and internationally.

Congratulations to all who contributed.

President John welcomed Bruce Robinson, Neil McKay, James Doogue and a visiting Rotarian, Geraldine Ennis from Hannan’s RC Kalgoorlie.

Sausage Sizzle Time Again

Colin told members of our two Sausage Sizzles for the year on Sunday November 20th and

Sunday December 11th

We need lots of volunteers to help throughout the day.  It is a lot of fun and a great chance to enjoy the friendship and company of our members.

District Foundation Committee

Ian is on the District Foundation Committee as Scholarships Chairman and shared with us some exciting news in regard to the announcement of this year’s Rotary Peace Fellow Scholarships.

Each year, Rotary selects up to 100 individuals from around the world to receive fully funded academic fellowships to pursue a Certificate Program or Master’s Degree program related to peace and conflict resolution and prevention at one of the participating peace centres.

Given that there are 540 Rotary Districts in the world, and that only 94 Scholarships were granted, our Rotary Region has been outstanding in the number of scholarships granted.

For the Master’s Degree Program FOUR applicants to go overseas and ONE to come to Australia have been selected.  An Albany lady Ian worked with is first reserve.

For the Diploma Course FIVE applicants have been selected for Australia, New Zealand and Thailand.

They are now seeking applications for next year.  For more information please contact Ian.

Best Wishes

Ian reported that Max is feeling better and wants to come back to Rotary as soon as he can.

Anne Lewkowski is recovering from major back surgery and we wish her a speedy and pain free recovery.

Fair News

Patricia reported that a lot of work has been going on behind the scene.

·        The Fair will be held at the end of the Doggy Park on Burke Drive

·        It will be in March 2018

·        People have volunteered for the committee and they would welcome others to join them.

·        Can all members take note of good ideas seen at fairs they attend and pass them on to the committee?

·        If you see particularly good stalls, try and get a card or contact details so they can be invited to participate in our fair.

·        Next year they will be putting out an advertisement for people to have a stall

Theatre Night “One Man, Two Guvnors”

Gillian reported that we still have 23 tickets available for the play.  Please make a special effort to invite some friends.  This will be a fabulous night and we need a sell-out crowd to maximise our fund-raising.

Directors Reports

With the help of the following slides each Director gave a very informative report.

Feedback requested

If you have any feedback about how we are progressing as a Club and particularly how are we going on achieving our goals, please talk to John.

CAKE STALL

Ian said his church raised $800 with a Cake Stall that they held in conjunction with their Bunnings sausage sizzle.  We approached Bunnings and YES we can have a cake stall in their foyer on our sausage sizzle day.  We cannot have cakes that contain cream or require refrigeration and each cake must have its ingredients listed.

Get ready to bake!  More details at Monday’s meeting.

Rotary Charity House

Project Manager, Jim Calcei, reports that the gutters are on and the float of the walls is completed.  When the roof goes on the pace will really pick up.

Supporting the School of St Yared

We are building the Rotary Charity House as a significant fund raiser with US $40,000 (about AUS $52,000) earmarked to support the refurbishment and expansion of the School of St Yared in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

Ethiopia – interesting facts

Our major international project this year is assisting the School of St Yared in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

Ethiopia is a predominantly Christian country with approximately 64% Christians, 32% Muslims and 2.6% (about two million) following traditional faith.  There are some Jews and Baha’i and it is the spiritual home of the Rastafari religious movement.

APOLOGIES:

If you will not be attending the meeting please email the Attendance Officer, Greg James, or phone him on Mob 0427 020 682 before 10.00am on Monday.

Please DO NOT send text messages to 0435 305 199 as they do not transfer from the Club phone to the Attendance Officer's phone.

Unless Greg receives an apology by 10.00am on the day of the meeting the meal will need to be charged to you, and the procedure to recover costs for non-apology will be:

a) Attendance officer to report to Treasurer at end of each meeting names of those who didn’t show and didn’t apologise

b) Treasurer to submit all Attendance Officer reports to monthly Board meeting to authorise recovery – valid excuses accepted

c) Treasurer to issue invoices to members monthly following Board meeting based on b).
