Ms Amanda Huxtable

Educational Consultant

Amanda is the Head of Dance and Drama at Santa Maria College.

For the last six years Amanda has spent her Christmas break as a volunteer at the School of St Yared in Ethiopia teaching and advising on curriculum and educational programs.

This year she took a group of students from Santa Maria who had a wonderful and uplifting experience working with the Ethiopian children.

SHOWCASE MEETING

And don’t miss this coming Monday’s meeting when we will have the President and Directors give their ‘Showcase’ report on activities and progress in their portfolios.

We have lots of things happening at the moment so there will be much of interest to report.

Bush Dance Successful

Many thanks to all of the volunteers who helped with the running of the Bush Dance at Our Lady of Fatima School on Friday 24th

Over two hundred attended on a glorious, if somewhat warm, evening and enjoyed the foot-tapping music of the “Numguts Bush Band”.

Colin and Gail managed the sausage sizzle with splendid assistance from Bob Rodgers and Betty Bright who worked like Trojans all night.  We made a profit of $314.90.

The P&F sold ice-creams and made $172.

RCA and the P&F combined to raise $319 from a raffle and

236 adults and children paid $5 admission (with 11 kids under 4 free) for a total of $1,180 so it was a good night financially.

Murdoch Student Emerging Leadership Program (MSEL)

After the pitches last week our High School Employment Programme (previously the Work Ready Seminar) attracted a team of four students.  We look forward to working with John Chew, Lutchmee Manda, Michelle Sexton and Locket Lee who will be working to revamp and refine the Work Ready Seminar concept and suggest the most appropriate format for assisting our local high school students prepare to enter the workforce.

The MSEL provides a unique opportunity for students to develop their leadership capabilities and assist local organizations, whilst studying at Murdoch.

The Centenary of The Rotary Foundation

Combined Dinner Meeting of the Rotary Clubs of Applecross and Attadale

Around a hundred Rotarians and guests attended a very enjoyable evening at Tompkins on Swan on Tuesday, February 28.  Ian Fairnie gave a history and overview of The Rotary Foundation.  DG Linda McLerie responded and then Ken Michael gave the keynote address touching on many aspects of Rotary and his experiences over the years.  It was an excellent talk and richly deserved the standing ovation he was given.

It was a wonderful evening and we thank the organizers: Liz Westoby and Ian Pittaway.
