STOP PRESS !!

Dr Rodney Rate, Chairman of our recent Charity Golf Day, announced today that the latest total of funds raised to assist the Motor Neurone Diseases Association and Fremantle Hospital Medical Research Foundation is

$38, 093 and there are still some small amounts to come in.  "This is an absolutely excellent result and is a credit to all who assisted with the day!  Thank you to all of our helpers and especially our sponsors and donors"

Monday, March 9th, 2015

President Mick Donnes welcomed all Rotarians and announced as there was no guest speaker that it would be straight down to business.

Carole reminded members of the District Conference in Albany from 20th to 22nd of March.  She has Registration forms for anyone interested in going.

Llew informed the meeting that he has invited the Presidents and Presidents Elect of Attadale, Melville and Applecross Rotary Clubs to meet to discuss issues including Rotary Health.

Gillian gave a very comprehensive report on how the $3000 from Attadale Rotary Club and a further $3000 from the District has been used in the screening programme at the Fremantle Language Centre.

The results have been so successful that the Centre is now employing an OT for a year and Melville Primary School has also decided to employ an OT.

Gillian thanked the Club and the District for supporting the project.

Jim ran a short fines session and finished with a game of Heads and Tails that was won by Bob Rodgers.

Ian won the door prize and the Joker valued at $717 remained elusive as Colin tried to win it.

Mick opened the AGM with apologies from Tom, Rod, Patricia, Greg, Kerry and Abby.

John presented the 2014/2015 finances that were accepted by the members.

Carole proposed a motion that a new Board position of President Nominee be established.  She felt this succession planning would be how the future of our Club would be maintained.

Congratulations to the following people who were elected to these positions for 2015 - 2016:-

President - Carole Maxwell

President Elect - John Sharpe

The current President Mick Donnes becomes Vice President

Secretary - Colin McCulloch

President Nominee - Martin Houchin

Treasurer - Betty Bright

Membership and PR - Martin Houchin

Special Projects - Mick Donnes

Fundraising - Rod Rate

Family of Rotary - George and Anne Lewkowski

Community -Bruce Robinson

Youth - Patricia Robertson

Vocation - Jeff Spickett

International and Foundation - Kerry Parsons

Carole as the incoming President has approached the following people who have accepted the positions of:

Sergeant:- Jim Calcei

Programme:- Ian and Jacquie Pittaway

Attendance:- Abby Parsons

Bulletin:- Gail McCulloch

Insurance and Risk Assessment:- Peter Field

Web Site:- Martin Houchin

Protection:- Llew Withers.  Llew will also be District Governor

John explained that steps taken tonight will allow forward planning to take place.

It will enable those people with experience to mentor those who have volunteered to take on a more senior role in the future.

Ian reminded everyone of the guest speaker Geoffrey Thomas coming on March 23rd.  He asked everyone to invite friends along to enjoy the talk and ensure there was a good audience.

Ian also raised some concerns:

He thought the President should report to the Monday meeting, what was discussed at the Board meeting, even though it was available to read on the website.

Following on from that any proposal for changing long standing traditions should be brought to the general meeting.

Ian also asked about signs and banners being made.

Carole explained that directional signage was being paid for and marketing signage would be looked at next.

Mick reminded the meeting that the Club now had a permanent phone number which is

0435 305 199.  This number will be automatically diverted to the acting Attendance Officer.

Bob on behalf of Rod reported that the Charity Golf Day raised in excess of $30 000.

Final figures will be available in due course.

He very eloquently thanked all the helpers and praised Rod for his amazing effort, especially since he was recovering from a very recent hip replacement operation

Mick asked if anyone could pick up the cheque from the Bush Dance at Bicton PS.  Ian very kindly offered to do so and pass it on to John.

Jim announced that a few people still have not paid for their wine.  He reminded everyone of the Bowls night on March 18th and the movie afternoon on March 29th

Mick concluded the meeting saying that Carole will make a wonderful President and she has a great Board to work with.

Monday, March 16th, 2015

President Mick welcomed everyone to the meeting especially Max, Tom, Martin, Ron and Rod.  He also welcomed our guest speaker Jan Ross and invited guests Lyn and Jill.

Ian reminded the meeting that next week the guest speaker would be Geoffrey Thomas, Aviation Editor at The West Australian.

He would like to have a large audience and encouraged members to bring their partners and invite friends.  An invitation has been extended to the Fremantle Rotary Club.

Carole, due to unforseen circumstances, is now unable to attend the Conference and asked if anyone wanted to buy her bookings.  Bruce may be able to help.

Jim announced that six people still need to pay for the fund raising wine.  He may need to send out invoices.

Shelter Box logo

Meeting moves to donate a Shelter Box to victims of Cyclone Pam.

Using borrowed glasses (as he had left his at home) Mick read information about the terrible cyclone damage to Vanuatu.  Disaster Aid Australia and Shelter Box teams are already in the region and we

have been asked to assist by purchasing a Shelter Box.  A motion to do so was passed with enthusiastic support.

Gillian reported that 150 tickets have been sold for the movie afternoon at 3.30pm on March 29th at the Cygnet Theatre to see 'The Second Best Exotic Marigold Hotel'.  This is looking good with Rod having sold in excess of 70 tickets.  Let's hope members invite as many people as possible to make this fundraiser a great success.

Gillian asked that when members leave a message regarding attendance that they nominate the actual date(s) to avoid any confusion.

Rod reported on the Golf Day and announced that a record profit of $38 000 had been made.

He said that two members on the committee, Bob Rodgers and Patricia Robertson would not be available to help next year.  He thanked them both for their contribution.

Bob had done an outstanding job over the years even while under going treatment.

The members gave him a standing ovation in recognition of the huge job he had done so successfully and efficiently over the five years the golf day has been held.

Patricia introduced Lyn who our club sponsored to attend Handicamp, and Jill, her carer.

Jill helped Lyn share her thoughts on the camp by asking her questions.  It was interesting to hear that she enjoyed activities such as abseiling, canoeing and being with her buddy who is now her Face Book friend.

Jill suggested for future camps that contact details be made available for friends you make  and that the name of the camp be changed.

She finished by saying that the camp certainly helped build confidence and character in those that attended.

Jim shared his experience of encountering a huge rat in Ron's driveway before he ran a fines session.

His game of Heads and Tails was won by Max who was delighted with the prize of a bottle of champagne.  He continued his good luck and also won a bottle of wine in the door prize.

Rod not only won the bottle of wine for the Joker but surprised everyone when he successfully drew the Joker out of the pack and won $740!!!!!.  Well done Rod.

Guest Speaker:   Jan Ross

'Pathfinder Investigations'

Betty introduced Jan who gave an interesting talk on Pathfinder Investigations.

She told us about her time in the West Yorkshire Police Force and her different jobs and experiences when she came to Australia.

With her past experience she was able to set up the company that mainly specialises in missing persons.  The other areas they work in are process serving, digital forensics and insurance claims.

Jim reported that Colin and Gail will be away for the next three weeks so unless someone takes Colin's place there will be no cake or biscuits with coffee until he returns!

He reminded everyone of the Annual Bowls Night on Wednesday, March 18th

All members, past members, partners and friends are invited to the Mt Pleasant Bowling Club this Wednesday starting at 6.30pm.

Bring a pair of flat-soled shoes or suitable socks and $7 per head to cover costs and assorted nibbles to have with drinks afterwards.  Drinks can be purchased from the bar.

Mick thanked the guest speakers and members for a wonderful night.

He congratulated Rod for his great work in running a very successful golf day and Bob for the wonderful job he did.

He reminded the Board members of the next meeting to be held on March 26th at John's.
