ROTARY SPECIAL MONTHS:    JANUARY IS ROTARY AWARENESS

Monday December 15th 2014    Christmas Dinner Meeting

President Mick Donnes welcomed all Rotarians, past and present, and their partners, and called on Jenny Calcei to say grace which she did and with a special prayer for the Sydney hostages.

Mick spoke on a number of matters:

·      welcomed Ronald Stobie from the Hilton Salvation Army who will receive our donations

·      said how wonderful it was to see so many of the honorary members and partners present

·      said we had had a very successful year with many memorable events

·      commended the directors on the great job they are doing

·      promised some interesting entertainment later in the evening

·      commented about the background music promoting "Memories" of old and present Rotarians and good times shared such as the Crabbing Days with John Bray and Neil Henley

Sergeant Jim Calcei thanked George for providing a bottle of red and white wine for each table and thanked Gillian for the lovely Christmas lollies she wrapped for everyone.  Jim announced that the next board meeting will be held at Rod Rate's on December 16th at 5.30pm and after a show of hands it was decided there will be no meeting on the 22nd.

Colin McCulloch thanked everyone who assisted with our last sausage sizzle and said that we sold 900 SSs and 273 drinks, received $80.70 in donations and made a profit of $1734.54.

Colin gave special thanks to the members who had helped at both of our Bunnings sausage sizzles and commended Greg, Jeff and Gail for working at all three.

The total raised by the three sausage sizzles was $3544.69

Rod Rate reported that he had attended the Annual Christmas Dinner of the Motor Neurone Disease Association and accepted on behalf of RCA a special trophy acknowledging our contribution to MND and recognizing our Club as Platinum donors.  This honour is reserved for organizations that have donated over $50,000.  RCA has achieved this in just three years!

Rod said that our annual Golf Day is coming up on March 6 and we are still looking for donations that will be suitable for raffles and prizes so if anyone can help out we would be most grateful.

Patricia Robertson said that the Job Seeker Seminar last Tuesday was excellent.

It was well run and feedback was positive.  She offered a big thank you to all those who assisted, particularly the non-members.

International Projects and Foundation Director, George Lewkowski, announced that we had made a donation of $960 to sponsor two deaf children through the Deaf

Action Fund partnering with Deaf Industries International.  He asked Kerry Parsons to tell us more and Kerry explained that the two children would attend a school of 120 students in the Philippines and that this funding for hearing aids and education would turn their lives around.

The sergeant, Jim Calcei, conducted a short fines session and finished with a game of heads 'n' tails that was won by Gillian Baker.

The door prize was won by Ian Pittaway.

Peter Field reported that the Joker is now worth $610.  Mick drew the lucky ticket but could not find the joker.

Ian Pittaway introduced the special entertainment for the night which was a Salsa dance display and then group instruction.

The three couples from Danza Loca put on a spectacular display and were very persuasive in getting most Rotarians onto the dance floor to learn some basic steps of the Salsa.

Great potential was shown by many and everyone mastered the basics.

Many thanks to Danza Loca and to Ian for the inspiration and organization!

President Mick Donnes thanked the dancers and Ian for arranging the entertainment.

He reiterated what a wonderful year it had been and wished everyone a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

He called on Ronald Stobie from the Hamilton Hill Salvation Army to receive the Club's many donations.

Ronald thanked the Club members for their generosity and outlined how the donations would be distributed and the real difference it would make to some Australians who will be doing it tough over Christmas.
