This was an excellent event to finish the year and it was pleasing to have such a good attendance especially including Nick and Rey O’dorisio and our honorary and past members and their partners.

December 23rd Sausage Sizzle

Gillian Baker added a bit of Christmas spirit to her first ever SS and helped the team sell 720 SSs and 283 drinks giving us a profit of $1396.80 that included $52.20 in donations.

On Saturday, January 5th we had an on-the-day cancellation.  After much rushing around we started selling at 11.24am and sold 300 SSs and 165 drinks by 2.30pm and were packed up and away by 3.00pm.  Bunnings paid for the buns, sausages and onions so we banked $730.15.  Many thanks to Carole for ringing around and Martin, Ron, George, Brian, Gillian and Patricia for volunteering at such short notice on a hot day.

2012 Tom Hoad Cup International Water Polo Parking

Mal Bennett organized the parking for this event each evening from December 27th to 30th

As well as providing a community service we made $1126 for the club.

Thank you to all who assisted: Mal (4 nights), Greg (2), Keith (2), Tony (2), Alan, Rod, Bob, Martin, Colin, Betty, Gail, Patricia and Gillian (2) who added to the atmosphere with her Christmas attire and flashing ear-rings.    Below are photos of the final night crew.

Chartering a New Scout Group

This is a transcript Llew Withers sent to Waylen Bay Leaders & Committee:

Leaders & Committee

I would like to make an announcement.

In a unique arrangement, 1st Waylen Bay Sea Scout Group (WBSSG) and Attadale Rotary Club (ARC) are jointly going to charter a new scout group in the Attadale locality.   The new group will be known as the Attadale Scout Group (ASG).   ASG will be a land scout troop.    I’m not aware that a Rotary Club and a Scout Group have combined resources in this way before.

How will it work:

Immediately onwards

  • Scouting will mentor the project, - I will take on A/GL of the new Group during set up and for the first 12 months in conjunction with my GL role at WB.
  • New leaders recruited through the Royal Show will be interviewed and commence training through E-Learning (Branch) and on the job training in initially cubs (with Waylen Bay),
  • ARC will act as Group Committee until the new Committee is formed and then mentor the appointees for up to 6 months.   New Committee will also spend on the job training time at WB Group Committee.   Those Rotarians who will be involved in this project are:  Trevor Leaver, Brian Wall, Patricia Robertson & Martin Houchin.
  • The District Commissioner will process the paperwork to create the new group.

Beginning of 2nd Term

  • Branch development team will visit primary schools in the local area and promote scouting.
  • District personnel will call a meeting of parents to form a new group and facilitate the meeting towards a positive outcome.
  • Each section will commence.   If numbers are low, they will be incorporated into WB sections or most likely we will recruit section mentors to assist with the running of each section.
  • The Group Committee elect will commence E-learning training and begin to take over Committee roles proper.

Terms 3 & 4

  • Using a staged approach the group will build section by section.   Understanding that WBSSG has taken 6 years to be fully operational, it is unlikely that we ASG will be fully operational

Until 3 years after commencement.   I see my role as hands on for 12 months progressively withdrawing to mentor role after 12 months to 3 years.

Every challenge is a risk.   However in order for WBSSG to continue to provide a quality program, we need to be recruiting new leaders and providing opportunities for existing leaders that are both creditable and challenging,  I look forward to developing something from nothing and I encourage all leaders (Waylen Bay) to play a part in the development of this new scouting enterprise.

Best wishes

Llew
