ROTARY SPECIAL MONTHS:    February is Peace and Conflict Prevention / Resolution

Meeting Monday 6th February

President John said he was looking forward to the second half of his year as President.

He welcomed our guest speaker Michael Carmody, Anna, Stevens, President of Attadale P&C, Sally-Anne Rowlands and Selwyn Castles from Booragoon RC.

He announced that the relevant paperwork for our St Yared project is progressing well.

Congratulations

President John congratulated Llew Withers on his appointment as Regional Chief Commissioner Perth

South Region.  Well done Llew.

Guest Speaker

Michael Carmody is the founder and leader of the Attadale Primary School Fathering Project, “AttaDads”, which was formed in October, 2015.

AttaDads is based around guidelines established by The Fathering Project, which was established by UWA cancer researcher, Bruce Robinson, 20 years ago.

Colin, Michael Carmody and Anna Stevens

Dr Robinson had witnessed hundreds of men on their deathbed, and there was almost a universal regret; they wished they’d spent more time with their kids.

That prompted him to establish The Fathering Project in conjunction with UWA, which now runs seminars at workplaces, schools and community groups, and has been adopted in six countries.

AttaDads has a 15-member committee of fathers who’ve so far organised two campouts and a day out on the river together.

Michael Carmody says apart from helping to make happier families, the program is also helping to make the school safer, as the campouts help everyone bond so they’re more likely to look after each other.

They aim to provide opportunities for fathers & father figures to organise great activities for dads and their kids but also dads only events where fathers & father figures can socialise, network, support, learn and share experiences with each other.

If a child has a strong father figure research shows children have positive benefits.

Michael’s talk was extremely interesting and he is to be congratulated on his very important and successful project.

CRABBING DAY

Congratulations and Thank You to Jim and Jenny Calcei for Another Great Crabbing Day

Once again Jenny and Jim Calcei hosted a fantastic crabbing day.  They put in so much work behind the scenes to make sure that everything ran smoothly and nothing was forgotten.

It was a great opportunity for everyone to get together and enjoy fabulous fellowship, fun and fine food, which were all in great abundance.

Thank you, Jenny and Jim, we all thoroughly enjoyed the day and appreciate all that you both do.

Thanks also to the boaties for their efforts out on the water that proved so productive after a worrying lack of crabs.  And special thanks to all who provided the wonderful spread of delicious salads and desserts.

It was really good to be able to catch up with our past members and we love seeing them all at our special functions.

Our Hosts Extraordinaire: Jim and Jenny Calcei, still smiling after a long and busy day.
