Progress on The School of St Yared Project

Mal reported that we are continuing to approach other Rotary Clubs to help us finance the St Yared project.  So far three clubs have committed financially to the project and others have to wait on Board decisions but have reacted favourably.

He thanked Colin for the wonderful job he has done doing the presentations with accompanying power point.

Colin is working on a YouTube presentation on the project to be directed to Rotary Clubs within Australia and overseas.  If you know of any clubs that may be interested, please let us know.

On Tuesday Greg, John, Mal, and Colin travelled to Bunbury to meet with DG elect, Bruce Lynch, to present the project to him so that he can promote it at the new District Governors’ Meeting in Santiago.

Christmas Dinner and Crabbing Day

Colin had a power point of these two events playing and encouraged everyone to come and enjoy the great fellowship, fun and food.

Come and join us again this year for a great night with wonderful friends,

Guest Speaker:

Gwenda Smith is the Founder / Owner of Shapechanger: -Shaping and Changing Lives.

She began her 20-year love affair of the medical profession as a qualified nurse.

She specialised as a Scrub Nurse, directly assisting surgeons in the operating theatre, before deciding to undertake studies to become a personal trainer.

Gwenda said that you benefit from a healthy body. It’s that simple.

Your life can be stressful, whether in the workplace, family commitments, or other

Clare de Marigny, Gwenda Smith and Carole Maxwell

obligations.  You are searching for balance and need help finding YOU again.

At Shapechanger, they change people’s lives through personalised, holistic training and education for becoming ‘Fit for Living, Well for Life’.

Gwenda is an inspiring presenter, motivational and key note speaker on the platforms of Wellness – Emotional, Spiritual, Mental, Social, Environmental, Occupational, Financial and Physical.

We were all captivated by her talk, thoroughly enjoying the stories she related.

Rod presented John with a special plaque from Spinnaker thanking Attadale and Fremantle RC’s for the money and support they have received from the Charity Golf Day.

Charity Golf Day

Attadale and Fremantle Rotary Clubs work together to run a Charity Golf Day to raise money for Spinnaker and MND.

One of the areas Spinnaker is involved in, is medical research.

Rod, who is the organiser of the Charity Golf Day, was invited by Spinnaker to present a research award to A/Prof Andrew Maiorana for his research on ‘Water-based Exercise for the Heart’.

The aim of this research is to evaluate the efficacy of water based exercise as an alternative exercise modality to land-based (gym) exercise for people with coronary heart disease.

Prizes

Congratulations to Sally for winning the door prize and Carole the raffle.

We hope they both enjoy the bottles of Piano Gully wine thanks to Anne and George Lewkowski.

Fines

Sergeant Patricia was pleased to use some shared information to conduct an interesting fines session.

Cakes with Coffee

Thank you to Patricia for providing the delicious slice we enjoyed with tea and coffee

Duty Roster 2017

Colin will shortly be compiling the Duty Roster for the first few months of the new year.  If you know that you will be away for any meetings in February, March or April please email the dates and you will not be rostered on those dates.

Santa?

Greg was doing a wonderful impersonation of Santa Claus after the meeting.  Apparently, the beard and ample girth are both real.  Abby asked for a wonderful Christmas Party for the students in Davao and Santa said he will make it happen.

School of St Yared Presentations

Mal and Colin attended the dinner meetings of RC of Booragoon and the RC of Rossmoyne this week and Colin did presentations seeking assistance for our School of St Yared project.

They were very different, but interesting meetings, and the presentations were well received.

At Booragoon, we had just six members and Mal and Colin.  We were in the ‘Midnight Fox’, which is a meeting room adjoining Blend Café, from where we ordered our meals.

You really don’t want to win heads and tails because you get the wig and the carving!

With only a few members we weren’t sure how they would handle the meeting but it was very well

done indeed with all formalities observed, interesting reports and fines and a great feeling of camaraderie.

We learned that not only do they sponsor children at the School of St Yared but they also contributed $5,000 to help purchase the school bus.  Well done to Booragoon who are certainly punching above their weight!
