ROTARY SPECIAL MONTHS:    APRIL IS MAGAZINE

Monday, April 4th

President Carole welcomed our guest speaker Richard Offen and invited members who had invited guests to introduce them.

Anne introduced Janette Newman

Ian introduced Jacquie and their son Andrew

John introduced Martin Harrison and his wife Gillian visiting Rotarians from Cockburn RC

Nick introduced his wife Rey

Mal introduced his wife Elaine

It was lovely to see so many visitors.

Everyone is invited to come next week

The guest speaker is Michelle Fyfe Assistant Police Commissioner.

Heritage Perth

Martin gave a delightful introduction for our guest speaker Richard Offen.

He is Executive Director of Heritage Perth which was set up to show the Heritage of Perth in a positive light as a major social and economic asset.

Richard gave an interesting, enthusiastic, informative and entertaining talk.

He related stories of early explorers to the Western Australian coastline and the arrival of early settlers.

Aboriginal relics have been found and carbon dated that show Aboriginals have inhabited Western Australia tens of thousands of years before European contact.

They've Done it Again

Jacquie and Ian provided the meeting with yet another great speaker.

Thank you, Thank You, Thank you

The Charity Golf Day held on Friday April 1st was a resounding success.

It looks like it may have made a profit of between $44 000 and $45,000 !!!!!!!!

Many people worked hard to make it a success and run smoothly.

Rod Rate is to be congratulated on the overall running of the event.

Thank you to the many members of Attadale RC who were involved in the event.  Other people from Attadale RC were thanked for their outstanding help.  They were Gail and Colin McCulloch, Bob Rodgers, Patricia Robertson, Martin Houchin, Jim Calcei and Kerry Parsons.

Entertainment Books

Martin encouraged members to buy a hard or soft copy of the Entertainment book for $65.

This is a good fundraiser so please support it.

Conference

John reported on the recent Conference saying all the topics were inspiring but

Karl O' Callaghan was a standout.

Local projects to Bunbury were interesting.

·      Hands up for Kids

·      Choose Respect

Next year the conference is in Fremantle.

Weekly Winners

Door prize was won by Jeff and the raffle by Elaine.

Give a Damn Give a Can

Llew asked that members please keep Sunday May 22nd to help at this event.

Monday, March 21st

Carole welcomed our guest speaker Michelle Fyfe, the Assistant Police Commissioner.

Everyone was delighted to see and welcome Keith Timmel to the meeting.

It was lovely to see so many guests that were introduced to the meeting:

Jacquie, Anne, Trish, Elaine, Frank, Jean, Gillian and Martin from Cockburn RC, Linda and Ross

Linda, Elaine, Trish, Anne and Gail

Michelle Fyfe   Assistant Police Commissioner

Ms Michelle Fyfe graduated from the Police Academy in 1984.

Since then she has worked in a number of areas:

·      State Crime

·      Major Incident Group

·      Recruiting and Selection

·      State Traffic and Operations.

·      Specialist Enforcement and Operations

·      Professional Development

·      2012 awarded the Australian Police Medal for her diligent and committed service to WA Police and the Western Australian community.

Michelle Fyfe gave a very interesting and enlightening talk on the problems of drugs in WA, in particular Ice.

She said the 2.6 million square km land area and 12,800km coastline of WA made policing very difficult.

WA has the highest use of Ice in the country.

Ice addiction is almost instantaneous.

The damage the use of drugs does in so many ways is indescribable.

Often working with the Federal Police

and International contacts they have had a lot of success with drug seizures and closing down clandestine labs.

They are working on trying to prevent drugs entering the country and tracking suppliers.

Happy Birthday Patricia

Colin presented a special birthday cake to Patricia.

Everyone sang "Happy Birthday" as she blew out

the candle.

And wasn't it wonderful to see Betty looking so radiant and happy despite her leg being broken in five places.

Gillian, Martin and Mal

Bob, Keith and Winston

GDGC

Bruce reminded everyone of this project and asked for volunteers who can help deliver the bags and notices to about 350 houses,

·      they will receive the bags by May 9th

·      deliver the bags around the weekend of May 14th

·      pick up the bags of food on Sunday May 22nd

Winners

The door prize was won by Greg and the Raffle by Colin.

Duty Roster

There appears to be a little confusion over the way the Duty Roster has been presented.  Set Up and Pack Up are not two discrete tasks to be done by individuals.  Setting up and packing up should be done by the two members nominated working as a team.
